There is a silly debate out there. Ever since the Da Vinci Code, people have asked.. was Jesus married? Recently, the news media has found a little snippet mentioning a wife (whether its real or not), but was Jesus married? Of course He was! Throughout the bible, Christ speaks of His bride, and He is called the Bridegroom. He has spoken of His wife countless of times but it is not what people think.
“And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife.” Rev 21:9
It’s also not about whether women can be His disciple because whoever is in the will of God is His disciple. There is no male, female, rich, poor, Jew, Gentile, or any kind of fleshly identity we have in Christ Jesus. That is because in Christ, He is become our only identity. It is no longer I* that lives, but Christ whom lives in me.
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. ” Gal 3:28
He came for His bride, and in Christ, we are the Lamb’s wife. This is the true marriage that God has testified of since the beginning. It is not after flesh, which was only a shadow of the true, and the true is come… which is Spirit and Life.
The bride (us.. both male and female) shall be silent as her Husband (Christ) speaks.. He is the head of the bride, He loves her as His own flesh and lays down His life for her. What God has joined together (Christ and the Bride, twain into one new man), no man can separate (no one can pluck you out of my hand). The mystery of marriage testifies of Christ and His bride.
Was Mary Magdalene His wife? If she was a new creation, then yes she was. So was Peter, John, Paul, and so many after them.
