Tomorrow, millions.. slash that.. billions will celebrate Christmas. Many will say they are celebrating Jesus’ birthday. December 25th was never His birthday, but a birthday of a babylonian god. I won’t go further into that.. but focus on Christ here.
The word “nativity” means origin.. but does our God have an origin? He entered the world as flesh and blood through Mary’s womb, but was never born after the adamic race, but of the heavenly.. as the Son of God. Even at that moment, our Lord never had an origin. He has no beginning, and no ending. He is eternal. He is the I AM.
“Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I AM. ” John 8:57,58
See in this passage, how even then men count the number of their days, and they tried to do the same to Christ but our Lord is eternal. The Jews tried to limit Him by age, and by time.. but He is not temporal. He didn’t even say “Before Abraham was, I was”.. but that “I AM“.. always unchanging, and always eternal.
But whenever we see an image of Christ, He is always portrayed as:
Baby Jesus (having a beginning)…
or as a dead man hanging on a cross (having an ending)..
But He is neither. He is the Alpha and Omega. He is the beginning and end of all things and by Him do all things consist.
People are always trying to humanize Him.. by setting a boundary, trying to grasp Him and limit Him but they cannot.
Are we glorifying our Lord and honoring Him by recognizing His “birthday”.. or are we insulting Him by failing to recognize that He is the eternal God?
