Addiction is the flesh manifested.. look at its desires, its appetite is a bottomless pit.. it consumes and consumes not until its satisfied, because there is NO satisfaction.. but it continues until it is so sick and cant continue anymore.. there r those who eat and eat, not until their hunger is filled, but until they are ready to throw up. There are those who look at porn, and its never one picture, but hundreds of em at a time. There are those who play video games, but they can sit there all day long and be there from sun up till sun down. There r people who shop so much that they cant stop and they have to live beyond their means, yet nothing what they buy ever satisfies them.. addiction.. flesh is king.. and itll destroy u.. its your god.. u bow to it and serve it, like a slave, and u r sent forth to feed like a monster.. it controls u, why? cause for that brief moment, a second.. u get a feeling of something, it makes u think ur alive.. its that “high” u get, but u only get it for a few seconds.. but then its gone.. and it kills u… ur not alive, not even in those few seconds.. its false life, the false light.. Light is life, and Christ is life, and He shall not leave us in want. Gianna said to me that the greatest thing is not to have the means to feed ur flesh, but to be free from it.. and whom the Son makes free, will be free indeed.. and u have never known anything like His liberty. U might not even know ur a slave right now, till He makes u free.
“Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the slave of sin. And the slave abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” John 8:34-36
When we sin, we are actually slaves to it.. it is our master. Also keep in mind that slavery was an ugly thing.. and masters were usually cruel to em.This is no different. Slavery also isnt the same as being an indentured servant, where you get to reap the rewards of your service to it and be free at the end.. slavery is for life… BUT the verse above says the slave doesn’t abide in the house forever (we r the house of the Lord, His abode).. but the Son does. It cant permanently reside in us.. but when the Son enters in us, He is forever and will never leave us. When He makes us free, then indeed we shall be free.. this freedom isnt like the world’s freedom.. its true liberty in Christ, that u will be free, even if they cast u in the dungeons and wrap you in chains.
“Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?” Rom 6:16
We are either slaves to sin, or slaves of righteousness. Jesus Christ is the obedience of God and He is our righteousness.
“But now that you have been freed from sin and have become God’s slaves, the benefit you reap is sanctification, and the result is eternal life.” Rom 6:22
We are freed to become slaves of God, and He is the good Master.. soooo good!
Gianna emailed me the word definitions for addict, and it was so interesting too if you consider the true meaning, and origin of the word..
Addict – To addict originally meant “to award as a slave”; an addict now is a slave to his/her habit, from Latin addictus, which, in Roman law, meant “a debtor awarded as a slave to his creditor.”
(Roman law) a formal award by a magistrate of a thing or person to another person (as the award of a debtor to his creditor); a surrender to a master
“under Roman law addiction was the justification for slavery”
So, in Roman times.. they would sell addicts like slaves, and give em over to masters who could control them by their addiction. This isn’t a different thing today… our flesh is weak, and addiction is a part of the flesh, a part of the old creature.. and we were all sold as a slave to its master, satan.. and he is a cruel master to all his.. but Christ has come, He has purchased us, and He opens the prison doors..
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised ,to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. While the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on him,
And he began to say unto them, “This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears” Luke 4:18-21
