WITH WHOM DID GOD MAKE THE NEW TESTAMENT/ COVENANT WITH – GENTILES /WORLD OR ISRAEL ?
By Arthur Owiti
Ignorance LEADS to death. The ignorance of what the New Testament is has led to numerous errors in the church and Christendom today. It is time to debunk the white lie that the New Testament and Covenant was made to the Gentiles. The New Testament was made with Israel .
MINI NOTE ON COVENANTS
A covenant is an agreement between parties .As per the Bible , terms, words ,gifts, promises, bloodshed and symbols marked the agreements made between the parties. In the Noah covenant the symbol for remembrance was a rainbow and the covenant with Abraham was marked by circumcision.
God makes covenants and this was seen when he made a covenant with Noah after destroying the world with a flood. Man also makes covenants and the book of Genesis is littered with the use of covenants- Abimelech and Abraham in Gen 21,
The most important covenants were the one God made with Abraham , Moses’ Israel and David.
God promised the salvation of all the people of the world, both Jew and Gentile through the seed of Abraham which was a mystery until Paul received the revelation from God that the seed was Jesus Christ. This covenant also included physical land, a gift emanating from the covenant.
The Mosaic covenant or covenant with the Children of Israel was still based on the covenant made with Abraham but included the Law which was to guide them in pleasing God and knowing what God hates. This Law set the people of Israel apart from all the people of the world which are now called Gentiles.
Now whenever Israel breached the covenant and the law , God was justified in punishing them with various plagues. The worst was captivity and loss of their land which later led to dispersions. Some people think that Israel has been dispersed once and that is around 70 AD. But this is not the case as Israel has been dispersed for many times as long as they went astray from the word of God.
One thing of special note is that God NEVER MADE COVENANTS WITH GENTILES NEITHER WAS ISRAEL TO MAKE COVENANTS WITH THEM. This is established in his word that God does not make covenants with the heathen nations.
He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel. He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them.
God in his love and remembrance of his covenant with Abraham promised that he would make an New covenant with the children of Israel where he will put his law in their hearts and not on stones. When the law is in the heart the person does not forget the ways of God and hence keep them and hence walks in the covenant .
WHAT ENTAILS THE NEW COVENANT ?
Jesus Christ came to fulfill the words of the covenant that God made with Israel.By Jesus coming from the line of David, the covenant that God made with David was fulfilled.
The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.
By Jesus proclaiming that he speaks the word of God , the covenant God made with the Israel that was ;led by Moses was fulfilled
I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.
By Jesus declaring that God so love d the world that he gave is only begotten son , the covenant that God made with Abraham that he was going to bless all nations through him was fulfilled as Jesus is from the line of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Jesus is the seed of Abraham.
And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.
Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
The book of Hebrews is clear that the New Testament is about where God’s law is to be put and not a new set of laws.
For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
The issue was not the Law but the people’s failure to kep the Law.So Jesus came and died once and for a ll that they who believe in himc an receive his Spirit who helps the believer to walkin the truth of God’s law as he acts a seal for the beliver’s redemption and acquisition of the promises of God at the return if Jesus Christ.
Moreover it clearly shows us that God makes this new covenant with Israel. This is in line with the fact that God does not make covenants with the Gentiles. However Israel is partially blind and is not fulfilling its end of the covenant by believing in Jesus Christ. This has happened to the advantage of the Gentiles who though were rejected of God in the past can now come into the covenant and promises of God through Jesus Christ.
For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
Jesus has broken down the wall of division between the Jews and the Gentiles and now each and everyone can go to God through Jesus and his blood in the New Testament. To the Jew first, then Gentile.
MISUNDERSTANDING THE NEW TESTAMENT
The early churches during the apostles time had no problem grasping the nature of the New Testament as long as they had the teachings of the apostles. However as false teachers spread into the church false doctrines choked the truth of this powerful truth.
The Roman Catholic church set up by Constantine rejected or ignored the covenant details where they claimed that God had finished with the Jews and now was working with the Gentiles .
This Replacement theology believes that the New testament is God’s covenant with the world .This is the root of Dispensational theology that has been embraced by Pentecostals and many Evangelicals and thus connects Evangelicals to the Roman Catholic church subtly.
The theology puts a dividing wall between Jews and Gentles when Jesus has destroyed the wall.
The thing that was needed to be made clear to Gentile Christians at that time was that whenever a Gentile gets born again he is grafted into the olive tree called Israel as a wild olive branch.
However according to replacement theology the Natural Olive Tree has been rejected and the Wild Olive Tree has been sanctified by God evidenced by the new covenant and New Testament.
THE EFFECTS OF THIS IGNORANCE:
Anti Semitism—Murder of the Jews
Evil Union and Marriage of State and Religion
Seeking for a Spiritual physical Gentile Kingdom made by men instead of waiting for the coming spiritual physical kingdom of Jesus Christ.
Pre Tribulation Rapture..because Gentiles are special people by obeying they shall be carried away before tribulation comes to the world .
The elect of God is one- them that believe in Jesus Christ , followers of Jesus both Jews and Gentiles.
Gentiles join this one elect called Israel the same way Jews join this one elect –through faith in Jesus Christ. This is the New Testament in the blood of Jesus where both Jew and Gentile is saved by faith in him.
